A Win, A Sufferfest and A Disaster.
Well, I've been meaning to update you all - post a few pics and such - but life has been a bit interrupted...again.
Life has been good! Save for a few aches and pains, but apparently I've been ignoring the sypmtoms again... argh! Low grade fever, random aches, sleepiness... yup, you guessed it! Lyme Disease again!
This will be my 3rd bout of Lyme in 2 years, my 2nd round this year. Maybe it's because I gave into the news from my Doc and started on meds, maybe I was getting sick all along, but I woke up in the middle of the night with a sore throat and some nasty green junk (yea, you wanted to know that) coming out of my nose. YUCKO!
2 Mandatory rest days and skipping the biggest bike race of my year on Sunday and I'm hoping I'll be right as rain until November. I'm on Doxy for another 19 days, so I'll have to be super careful (even MORE careful than usual) in Hawaii so as to not add skin cancer to my list of woes! Ok, no more jokes, I promise!
What does this mean? I'm not going to let it interrupt the goal of a strong race at Cozumel. Instead of racing Hawaii this year, I'll be in a kayak at the start. That Pele (Hawaiian god - google her :) has quite a sense of humor. The last time I was in Kona was 2008. Last year I had NO desire to go back. This year, I wanted it more than anything. Funny how I'll be there, but not racing... guess it shows me for not being more specific in my prayers!
I'll post some pics from the Portsmouth crit tonight in an album for your viewing pleasure. Not much to report from that race - great group of women were there and it was a FAST race. I made the decision not to go for primes and save myself for the final sprint. It was a poor choice as a crash during the sprint meant we all just kind of rolled across the line. I was 1 spot out of the money. Oh well, next year I'll win it!
And in a few days, after a friend's baby shower and family wedding, I'll have plenty to share with you all about TRAINING and RACING and HAWAII!!
